Copyright protects copyrighted works. Copyright gives the author of the copyrighted work protection from abuse. It is automatically acquired through the creation of a work, therefore, registration is not required as is the case with industrial property rights (e.g. the trademark, industrial design, patent, etc.). Copyrights are valid throughout the entire duration of the author’s life and 70 years following his or her death. In practice, however, ownership rights and insufficient regulation of copyright and related rights often pose questions and cause difficulties or disputes.
