Katja graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana and gained valuable experience working as a lawyer in one of the major Slovenian companies for eight years. After passing the State Bar Exam, she continued her career working in one of the Slovenian law firms.
Katja began acquiring her knowledge and experience in the field of intellectual property in 2011, when she started working at the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office (SIPO). She was responsible for decision-making in the most demanding administrative procedures in the field of trademarks, designs and geographical indications. As the representative of the Republic of Slovenia, she also participated in the adoption of the new European Union legislative package on trademarks. She actively
participated in the committees and working groups of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as the programs for harmonization of practices in the internal market (between the EUIPO and the national intellectual property offices of the EU Member States).
Afterwards Katja worked in another IP firm in Slovenia, where she gained important practical experience in the field of intellectual property. She handled contentious and non-contentious IP matters and represented clients in judicial, administrative, and customs proceedings before the Slovenian IPO and other relevant institutions.
